Neither myself nor the six other people I saw it with thought it was anything more than mediocre. I thought the film failed to suspend my disbelief enough to avoid my noticeing all the plot holes. Perhaps there is something about this movie that just "plugs into" American culture more than Australian culture or something.

I"ve seen "Iron"Man" three times already, and it worked
every time for. It's entertraining and very funny and I also
agree that it shows the federal goverment's war mongering
in its true, ugly light.

Love Chris Argyris since I studied his immaturity-maturity continuum theory years ago. He has the institutional church pegged as fostering immaturity, and this quote confirms it!

The Essenes, Pharisees, Zealots, Sadducees and other groups tried to align Jesus with their (or their enemies) camp. Jesus didn't bite the bait. He instead aligned himself with his Daddy's mission—solely.

I find it heart breaking that followers of Him have now created the very things he avoided.

Very insightful. Never thought of it this way before...the timelessness of nature. Perhaps the timelessness of nature is yet another example of God making all things new—constant restoration and rebirth. Death producing new life.

I find it very cool that God's creation is ever renewing and recreating itself. I believe even this sheds some light into God's heart.

Duncan, I agree.

Bill, what I love is that Fitch is in the trenches doing it. I've said in previous posts that Jesus wouldn't have been a very good church planter because he spent way too much time with a small group of 12 men.

I have too and it seems to me that Bell's is the more restorative approach. If we really have freedom and are called to pursue mission then Paul's warning looks contextual to me.

I leave Driscoll's observations to Mars Hill.

Good post. I think we think the mission of the church is growth, whereas actually it's to make disciples.

Jonathan I listen to Driscoll and I listen to Bell - both seem to want to search the bible on this issue and both come out with totally different conclusions. I really want to have a black and white answer but I don't think it's there. I have wrestled with 1 Tim 2 and 3 a lot, but I just don't know what it says.

i think you are spot on here man. totally agree. being concerned about numbers or money always hurts a churches ability to provide a means towards spiritual growth.

The modern (american) church paradigm requires new blood on a regular basis. Bottom line, you gotta pay for stuff, and so you need people who give. As you get people in the door, they clamor for services, so you need more money.
It reminds of the the 'debt as money' cycle that drives western consumerism.

Peggy, I guess when all is said and done, I just don't get the concern. I look at the women in my life and see tremendous value in their voice and opinion. But I came from a strong line of women. Some of the best voices I have ever worked with have been women. Not that it's a theological framework but I think the business world got this a long time ago. The barriers I have always seen have been based in fear much more than a concern for Biblical purity.

To be honest I think men are afraid that you women are going to show us up.

Leya, the podcast is his interview with Rose Swedman. It's interesting. Rob has wrestled with and chosen that women should lead. I got to sit in on a discussion with the elders at Mars Hill about a year and a half ago and heard why. They went through a lot of heat for it but maintained it was worth it.

Jonathan,

Had to listen to the podcast and them write a post at my blog before coming back to comment....

...because that could have been a quote from me at age 17 challenging the ruling that I could not lead a high school Bible study because there would be boys older than 13....

Funny, really, only from the other side, where men and women serve the Body of Christ together, as they Spirit moves and gifts them.

Jim, no worries. I found Tolle to have some basic thoughts that were not new but very important. I chose to read the book from a perspective of what can I learn and filter.

I think Greg Boyd nailed some of my concerns with his work.

http://gregboyd.blogspot.com/2008/04/echhart-tolles-new-earth-book-review.html

I would add that I found Tolle's version of unity with God to be entirely unrelational.

My intent with this post was not to endorse Tolle but to call out something unique about how he presented himself.

Jonathan, you knew I'd have to say something since you brought up Tolle. :)
You know this already bro, but I'll say for the record that I couldn't continue reading Power of Now after Tolle redefined the "true" meaning of some of Christ's parables, to be in line with his own thesis. I couldn't help but be disgusted. I was surprised by my reaction.
Righteous indignation?
I dunno, but I couldn't get past that, regardless.

Cheers!
