Big Love

John Michael Talbot explores the idea of Big Love, or how much bigger God is compared to our perceptions.

This video captures a lot of what I have been thinking about lately. Why do you think we try to control God?  I know the easy answer is sin, but I want to go deeper than that.  What is it that drives us to develop neat little theologies that propose to sum up God?

I think that it is our contemplation of eternity and mortality. I know that now that I am in my sixties, I keep a closer watch on who dies and how old they are. I definitely think that it is our hope for eternal life and our impending death. nnNext, I would say that it is sin only with the following definition of sin; sin being missing the mark of believing in a loving God. That said, Christianity goes too far beyond accepting redemption as a reality and it is the too far area that creates all the little boxes.

Great video. Loved it. Jonathan so many of us I think like to try to explain God and we all have our own perceptions. But I like what John Talbot said the Churches are beautiful but only have a little tiny-bit of what God’s like. nnWe do have the Scriptures and they do reval to us a little of what God is like and how much He Loves us, doctrine and instructions for living and loving, promisses, and revelation.nnIt’s sad that so many take this tiny-bit that has been revealed to us and use it inapprpriately to lord over people, control them, claim a corner on truth, obtain power over people, and even nations at times. nnBut there is also much very good work going on around the world regarding spreading the good news and taking care of the weak and those with no voice, food or shelter. So it’s amazing what the Churches have done really with a small understanding of God’s Love. It’s really wonderous how that God has worked in the hearts of people inspite of themselves (ourselves) .nnWe have a God who Loves us more than we can know. I think we are driven to try to understand God (even though it’s impossible) because we don’t understand Him. So many juts make up things to put God in a box sort of speak and say here …. this is what God is like. It’s safe that way. At least for a moment.nnGod is God and He is the biggest thing going. It like heaven doen’t contain God…God cantains heaven. We just don’t get it much of the time. Love !nnGood video Jonathan, thanksnnnn
