Help Me Get The Word Out

    Jonathan…….I hope you can help me a little ! At the bottom of page 90 you reflect on Gen 3:17b “cursed is the ground because of you” and say …..We hear and think Adam is the reason the ground is cursed. But once again, the problem is not that Adam is the reason, but that Adam thinks he is the reason. ” rnrnI’m having trouble thinking about why this is so. How else can you think about what Gen 3: 17b says ? It appreas pretty clear. Having said that I know God Loves Adam so thats clear as well because he’s God’s child. Is it Adams action and not himself thats the issue?

      The act creates the grounds for the test. But he gets it wrong. He uses the act as a basis for judgment instead of God’s declaration. He uses the subjective instead of the objective. This is a test of reality.

        Ok, I get that (I think) but what I don’t get, is now the reality of the ground being cursed. As now we “see” the appearence of thistles and thorns. So I just don’t get the test as it applies to the results which are apparent or maybe I should say the consequenses…. ? And if the ground bringing forth thistles is a consequence then is that adding to Adams reality that he sees and finds himself in ? Which I would say is in fact real as there is evidence in front of his eyes !

          Couple things. It’s easy to infer from it that the thistles weren’t there before. But it doesn’t say that. What changes is not the reality of the thistles but our perception of them now that we experience a false reality. Now they have meaning to them that we project onto them. We assume they are God getting us or the earth reminding us that we suck, or something like that.

            I’ll recheck that (the thistles may have been there before) issue. By the way, thus far I am so very glad I’m reading your book. It presents some really new perspectives I’ve never thought about before and I absolutely love the questions you brought up in the first couple of chapters. Although not new questions (at least to me, as I’ve thought about these same things before) but never felt comfortable to discuss them with “Church” folks (not they are not good people) but that when you question, it brings up all kinds of weird thoughts by ourselves and others as well. Like lack of acceptance, will friends think I’m really not a “Christian” , silly things. nnI’m glad someone had the ability and insight to come up with a different perspective. I’m having fun reading this..! MUCH Thanks…….
