Sally Speaks

Lose Your Job. from The Work Of The People on Vimeo.

Travis Reed sits down with Sally Morgenthaler and discusses the provocative idea of church leadership. I thinks she asks some pretty interesting questions regarding the space of being a pastor.  What do you think?

    Jonathan – Interesting video.

Hmmm? Pastors = Addicts = addicted to ourselves = not free.

    **Today's** “Pastor/Leaders” certainly do have a challenge…

When they receive a salary? NOT free? Who are they really serving? And why?

When they sign on to a denominations list of “I believes.” Can God speak to them now?
Ane are they allowed to teach what God is showing them?

When they market themselves for a job and convince the search committee
they, and their family, meet “ALL” the qualifications for an “Elder/Teacher/Pastor.”
And in their heart they know they don’t meet the qualifications. But they do speak well.
And now the “Act” begins. Convincing others they are – Blameless, Holy, Just, etc…
Heavy weights on mens shoulders… Doing nothing to lift them off…

When they take a “Title” and “Position,” “Pastor/Leader,” NOT found in the scriptures.
How many scriptures have to be twisted to make the word pastor into a “Title?”
When NO one in the Bible had the “Title” pastor?
How many scriptures have to be twisted to make pastor = leader?
When Jesus told “His Disciples” NOT to be called “Leader” and NONE did?

Along with the ‘Title” and “Position” “Pastor/Leader” comes “A Little Bit Extra.”
Power, profit, Prestige, Honor, Glory, Recognition, Reputation, etc..
ALL very **addicting.** ALL become **Idols** of the heart. Ezek 14:1 – 11.
And now God talks to them according to their **Idols.**
**Addictions** and **Idols.** Hard to lay down and walk away from.

ALL those things Jesus spoke against.

As Man – Jesus humbled Himself, made Himself of NO reputation,
and took on the form of a “Servant.” Phil 2:7-8. ;-)

When you believe the lie you start to die…

Most don’t start out wanting to steal
**the name and the glory** that belongs only to Jesus.
They just don’t refuse it when it comes.

    Lift Jesus higher…

Wow. I love this woman. She is intense, passionate and so full of future thinking. I think this is a powerful statement…
“Worship can only be as big as our gospel.”
and I am currently really wrestling with this…
“How do we connect the gathering with this rediscovery of true mission outside the walls.”
I have a hunch their is real value in the gathering, which is why I can't completely turn my back on it but I don't know how to make the connection to how I am living and loving in my everyday life.
