I loved it.

I'm really sorry. But i have to say it.

The content is great, everything he says is good. But…

The video in itself is terrible. SO SO SO SOOOOOOO cheesy. It's like a bad 80's video. The music is too repetitive, and kinda annoying. And overall, minus the content it just sucks. I have been a fan of rob's work since 2005, and now i'm beginning to question that. Has anybody told Rob this? I've talked to a solid 15 people who have seen it and they're hoping its a late april fools joke.

Eugene, notice how I didn't say I like the style. Sadly, I agree with you. But I figure Rob has been such an influence in my life he's allowed a few passes. ;-P

I wasn't indicating you at all in my comment, so no worries! He has also been an huge influence for me. I think God has and can use Rob in huge ways. I think this is a mistake though. I emailed Mars Hill to express my concern. I felt pretty silly, emailing a mega-church and hoping for a response, but I feel obligated to Rob for all God's done for me through him to provide him with critique's.

I am a bit lost here, and welcome your feedback. What is it that compels us to give a critique because the video quality is “cheesy” but the words are powerful? I really don't get it. What is it in you, that drives or obligates you to offer your critique? I am curious… did Rob ask you to provide him with critiques? If he did, please excuse or ignore this email, as his request for your critique would change everything. I find so much of this in people, even in the church, by those who consider themselves Christians, compelled to offer their opinion, make their judgments, feel obligated to give their critiques, and I am simply just trying to understand it. If it was a matter of sin, that is different. Is this a matter of sin or “cheesy” video? Why the necessity to confront? I really am trying to understand this obligated to critique thing.

I'm a little confused by your statement: “I find so much of this in people, even in the church, by those who consider themselves Christians, compelled to offer their opinion, make their judgments, feel obligated to give their critiques, and I am simply just trying to understand it.”

But I feel as if your concern is that I am unjustly judging Rob Bell's 'Resurrection', while I also say his teaching in 'Resurrection' is solid.

What concerns me most is that Christ's crucifixion and resurrection are together the two of the most important things to happen to mankind. A cheesy/silly portrayal of such vastly important events is simply not fitting.

Lastly, I bring my concerns up because I am part of the church. Rob Bell is my brother in Christ. As the body of Christ we all have different abilities and impacts on society. Rob, for example, has a huge impact because God is using him in huge ways. And even though he has done so much, he is only a part of the body of Christ. Considering this, I struggle in why I shouldn't push my brothers and sisters in Christ to be more effective in their preaching of the gospel.
