I think his criticism is spot on. At the same time, church culture is not some kind of entity that we either accept or abandon. Church is us, for better or for worse. I'm glad he said at the end “I have not given up!”. The only way for the church to move closer towards what it's supposed to be, is through each one of us speaking up and providing a better example.

Anyone who would want to claim that he is disillusioned with churchianity but not himself, is most likely deceiving himself. “Churchianity” will only change to the degree that we ourselves are willing to deal with our personal demons and twisted mindsets.

On a lighter note – if there was no Christian subculture, we'd be missing out on gems like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-NOZU2iPA8

I thought I invented the term “churchianity”. Oh well.

This Andrew and I need to talk, our stories are similar. I grew up in a religious family and gave my life to my local church in High School, went to a Christian college and worked with my youth group. I was ready to go to Seminary when I graduated to prepare for “paid Christian ministry.” But now that I’ve graduated from college, I struggle daily with the thoughts of what I want to do. The commodification of Christianity has turned me away from the gospel. I’m not ready to give up, but I don’t know where to start.
