I just read one of the coolest posts in a long time. It reminds me why I decided to participate in the Emergent conversation. In the end, love wins.
John Piper recently announced a leave of absence from ministry. No this isn’t about John Piper. But it’s important to understand the background. I applaud Piper for making this move. It has the potential to be spun in so many negative directions.
But today I was reading Doug Pagitt’s response and it blew me away.
I hope for the very best for John on his leave and I hope that all the relationships in his life are healed and whole.
I know that many people will feel the impulse of vindication and self righteousness in this announcement in light of the youttube video and blog comments, but, this is not about us. It is not about our disaggreement on these matters. It not about proving the falseness of someones arguement. It is not a time for any of us to “sit in the seat of mockers”.
This is about John and his wife, Noël.
So, let’s all join in supporting, caring and loving the Pipers in this time.
John has been rather unkind to Doug in the past and this could have been the moment to pounce. But Doug took the time to respond with love. Well done Doug.
