I Refuse To Believe In That God Too

Nathan Colquhoun is one of my favorite bloggers because he always throws out interesting and provocative stuff.  This week he had a quote from someone he knows that was the basis of one of his posts.  The quote said:

“I refuse to believe in a God who is the primary cause of conflict in the world, preaches racism, sexism, homophobia, and ignorance, and then sends me to hell if I’m bad.” (Michale Fuhrman)

When I read that I couldn’t help but think that I would refuse to believe in that God too.  If that were my perception of God, I would likely not be a follower of Jesus.

But I can’t help but think that when I look at Jesus, if Jesus is a true reflection of the God image, something doesn’t reconcile with the above statement.  Either God is not Jesus, or that image is not God.  And this makes me realize and contemplate that in some cases, I may be the only image of God people ever see.  Will they see Jesus, or will they see anger?
