Missional Small Communities

If you are a pastor I highly encourage you to watch this video.  In the video, Ed Stetzer explores the value behind organizing around missional communities. He spends a lot of time sharing some great metaphors around the yo-yo, which I thought was very insightful and creative.  He also explored the easy way of being the church and the hard way.

What caught me were Stetzer’s final words.  He said:

“I believe the harder way (creating participatory, missional, small communities) is the better way.  I believe it is the better way because I believe God made us for community.  And we hunger for that community.  And I’ll just be honest. Most people who take the easy route (sitting in the pew and not participating) and they come and sit face forward, and they watch the show from the stands.  They look down on the field from the stands.  Most of them are longing for relationships that they don’t have.  And what happens is that without them joining with other Christians provoking them to love and good deeds, they end up thinking that that is the normal Christian life. It’s not.”

If you are looking for help in creating and fostering missional communities, I’d like to introduce you to Thrive Ministries.  We’re actively working to help you create what Stetzer is talking about.

REF: The John Piper slag off.

I have to laugh at you “christians”. You seem to think that by giving someone a good slagging off, then simply by adding a granting of grace to the individual that you just slagged off, it seems somehow to make you the righteous person you so believe yourself to be. Come on. At least be honest if you're a “christian”. Don't disguise your non-christian loftiness by some holy Joe cliches within your quite farcical closing blessing.

A Realist, you seem to be operating under the assumption that I have in any way claimed my own righteousness, which I have not.
