The Dangerous Christian

One of the most dangerous things you can do as a Christian is to think really small and pour your love into twelve people. And the cool thing is that it doesn’t even require a license.

    Oh, excellent.

Reblogged that in one half a nanosecond.
  • I'm an atheist - not the angry kind, so breathe easy, as you won't be hearing any of the tired and boring theo-phobic quarrels from me. I'm just wondering what exactly is meant by what you've said here (followed the link from another blog), because on the surface it sounds to me like a bit of a slap in the face to Jesus.
  • Andy, no worries.

In the Christian world we like big churches. You might know them. They're called mega churches. And what they do is create a context where people can hide and never learn to follow Jesus.

Jesus never did that. He didn't go for the crowds. He took twelve guys and poured his love into them and then said go do the same.

I guess that ordination card I carry in my wallet is only good for getting past the nurses at the hospital after visiting hours.

  • "Jesus never did that. He didn’t go for the crowds."

I love the interplay in Christ's life - of both reaching His inner circle, but also reaching the masses. He starts His ministy in Matthew 4 by calling His disciples, and then "teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.... And great crowds followed Him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan." (v 23-25) The beatitudes was delivered to these crowds.

    Jonathan,

Gotcha. Thanks. I know the big churches. The town I lived in through high school went crazy building them. Recently, another huge building went up in the vicinity of the rest of the megachurches, and everybody said "here comes another one." When the sign finally went up on that building it said "Tipsy's Liquor World." No kidding.
  • Tipsy's Liquor World - Hahahaha, another potential Churchindapub!!!!

I love it, every one else is putting up buildings for us! :-)
